How Much Does A Ramp Cost?

How Much Does A Ramp Cost?

The cost of a ramp will vary from project to project. For example, a standard, straight Rapid Ramp will start from £2,500. Quotations can be subject to site survey reports, and VAT exemptions apply.

AN OVERVIEW OF FACTORS THAT AFFECT THE PRICE OF A RAMP:

1. The Chosen Material – Wood, Concrete or Steel

Wooden and concrete ramps are designed as one-use systems. Once they have served their purpose, they are broken up and thrown away, which is costly in labour and waste disposal.

Unlike other materials, steel Rapid Ramps can be recycled, reused, or redesigned multiple times to suit varied space sizes and applications. For example, if drain access is specified in your next project, a hatch section can be included in the reconfiguration of the ramp.

You can ultimately reduce your long-term expenses by investing in a reusable Rapid Ramp.

Wooden ramps do not have great longevity due to their ability to rot and become slippery from water exposure. The material will also burn in the event of a fire; which is a health and safety consideration.

Alternatively, the galvanised steel fire-resistant that will not typically burn and melt at temperatures encountered in building fires. It is also slip-resistant due to the self-draining mesh surface that allows water to pass through instead of puddling and freezing.

Rapid Ramp components are manufactured from galvanised steel. Galvanising is a process where a protective coating of zinc is applied to prevent rusting, increasing the product's longevity.

All systems come with a 3-year guarantee and an assured life span of over 25 years.

2. The Project Specification - Fully Compliant or Standard Ramp?

Standard Ramp

A standard ramp has a typical lead time between 2-4 weeks from the point of order. However, this is subject to change.

What factors are included in the cost of a Standard Rapid Ramp?

  • Welding Time– The Ramp components are welded as part of the manufacturing process.
  • Galvanising Time- Steel components are zinc coated and hot-dip galvanised in accordance with BS EN ISO 14713-2:2020.
  • Powder Coating Time- All ramp handrails and guardings are powder-coated to BS EN 12206-1:2004.
  • Materials Costs – Handrails, walkways platforms and ramp legs are manufactured from steel. Thus, raw steel has to be purchased.

  • Storage Costs – All standard and compliant components are stored in our on-site warehouse facility, ready for delivery from the point of order. This reduces lead times and allows the product to be on-site much quicker.
  • Site Survey – Our surveyors travel to site and use professioal equipeptment including lider and lazer scaners.
  • Transport – Components are delivered from the manufacturing plant to our on-site warehouse facility. Transport costs are kept low because we manufacture and buy raw materials in bulk.

A Compliant Ramp

A ramp that needs to be ‘DDA compliant’ or ‘compliant with Part M & K’ will have an increased price compared to a standard Rapid Ramp with no extras. However, the lead time is the same, typically between 2-4 weeks from the point of order.

What additional factors increase the cost of a compliant ramp?

  • Welding, Galvanising, Powder Coating Time – Due to the extra components in a fully Compliant Rapid Ramp kit, the cost to manufacture it inceases.
  • Additional Materials – Extra steel is required to create the compliant handrails with vertical infill balustrade. Raw material costs therefore increases.

  • Yellow Tread Strips - The cost of manufacturing and fitting the yellow tread strips to the mesh walkway platforms.

3. Optional Extras

All extras shown are a separate cost, and lead times vary, as these items are manufactured on demand and not stocked regularly.

Please state in your enquiry if you require any optional extras. Contact us by filling in the quick quote form or emaling [email protected] with your information, including the project address, drawings, photos, and contact details.

Surface Options:

GRP - A slip-resistant and non-corrosive surface that is ideal for areas with high footfall such as schools and public spaces.  The product comes in dark grey as standard.

Rubber CrumbThis is a soft, slip-resistant surface that reduces the impact of falls.

The product is made from the same materials used in soft play areas and is ideal for nurseries, schools, and public facilities. Plus, it is available in a range of colours and will continue to perform in all weather conditions.

Hoarding

Solid Underside Hoarding - This mesh is designed to prevent children from gaining access to the underneath of the ramp.

It is often specified for schools and public buildings.

Specification Includes:
• Pre-painted sheets of aluminium sheets with a solid polyethene core.
• Black as standard.

Standard Underside Mesh Hoarding - This mesh is designed to prevent children from gaining access to the underneath of the ramp.

It is often specified for schools and public buildings.

Specification Includes:
• Mesh size 200 x 50mm
• 33.7mm OD Single mesh clip

Fine Underside Mesh Hoarding - This mesh has 20mm x 20mm small square holes, designed to stop litter from blowing underneath the ramp.

Custom Powder Coated Colour

Rapid Ramp comes in black as standard; however, you can choose a custom colour to match your requirement.

All we require is your RAL colour number. A colour chart can identify this.

Lower Intermediate Handrail

This handrail is designed to be used by young children and wheelchair users.

The handrail should be 600mm from the surface of the system.

4. The Ramp Configuration

A Rapid Ramp can be as long and wide as required. Plus, it can be designed in many different configurations to suit multiple spaces.

The final measurements will impact the price of the ramp.

Please note that a fully compliant ramp for public applications must achieve a minimum width of 1500mm and often ramps for public use (whether to a building or space) can accomplish a minimum ramp gradient of 1:15 or a 1:20 gradient is frequently specified.

dwelling ramp purchased via the council must have a gradient no less than 1:12 (4.7 degrees) and minimum width of 900mm, as stated in Documents M and K of the Building Regulations.

Widths Available:

  • 900mm – the recommended width for dwelling ramps under Document M, Section 6 of the Building Regulations.
  • 1000mm – our standard modular wheelchair ramp for dwellings.
  • 1200mm – our slightly wider modular ramp.
  • 1500mm – the recommended width for modular ramps for public buildings.
  • Any of the above can be secured together to create almost any width.

5. Step Units

Alongside our modular metal ramps, we also provide our widely used and specified modular steps. Again, compliant and standard versions are available.
