REQUIREMENT:

When BBC DIY SOS put out a call on Facebook for help sourcing a disabled access ramp for a BBC Children in Need project at The Joshua Tree, we knew we had to get involved.

The Joshua Tree is a Cheshire-based charity that supports families affected by childhood cancer, offering tailored support, practical help, and a safe space for children and their loved ones to come together.

Our partners at Healthcare Matters responded without hesitation. While we donated the ramp, their team generously provided the skilled labour for the installation, making us a winning team working efficiently and quickly together.

DESIGN PHASE:

A Healthcare Matters team member was on-site the day after we agreed to assist, conducting a survey using our Rapid Scanner technology to digitally map the building, floor levels, and any obstacles.

Within just an hour of receiving the survey data, our design department created a 3D model and 2D plan of the ramp, overlaid onto a virtual site rendering.

These designs were quickly returned to Healthcare Matters, enabling swift sign-off from the DIY SOS team.

INSTALLATION:

The ramp was installed just three days after the post went live, completed late at night once the tarmac was ready, and in place just in time for the reveal day.

Thanks to the dedication and collaboration of our in-house designers, warehouse team, and the survey and installation crew from Healthcare Matters, the project was completed in record time.

Everyone worked seamlessly together to deliver this important charitable contribution.

FEATURES INCLUDED:

  •  Infill Handrail - This product safeguards against users climbing or falling through gaps.
  • Yellow Tread - A safety feature designed to help those with impaired vision identify the system's nose and any level changes.
  • Looped Trombone Ends – Prevents clothes from snagging at the ends.
  • Slip-Resistant Mesh Platform - A multi-directional walkway with self-draining steel mesh and a galvanised finish.
  • Standard Colour: Black - Our ramps have a powder-coated black finish that is more durable than typical paint.
  • Adjustable Telescopic Legs - These can be adapted to suit various threshold heights.
  • Access Hatch - The hatch opens, granting individuals access to the underground services.
