Hospital Surgical Hub, Royal Glamorgan Hospital
Healthcare
REQUIREMENT:
Following a roof collapse at one of the Trust’s facilities, urgent action was required to establish a temporary surgical hub at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital while essential repairs were carried out at the affected location.
To support the safe and efficient operation of the temporary hub, a subcontractor was required to deliver ramp and step access to the new buildings. We were proud to be selected as the ideal partner for this fast-paced, high-priority project.
Working to extremely tight deadline, we provided a flexible and reliable solution. Like a Meccano set, the systems we used are made up of smart, modular, demountable sections that can be quickly assembled and removed.
This approach allowed us to respond at speed without compromising on safety, quality, or performance, ensuring the hospital could continue delivering critical care with minimal disruption.
DESIGN PHASE:
During the design process, we worked closely with the wider project team to review, refine, and finalise estimates and quotations as the scope developed.
Once individual elements and areas were agreed, approved pricing was issued to keep everything aligned and moving forward smoothly.
We also produced and issued 2D drawings and 3D visualisations as required. These helped bring the designs to life and ensured seamless coordination between our team, the main contractor, and the Trust.
INSTALLATION:
Once the modular buildings were positioned in the hospital car park, installation was carried out in carefully managed stages across the site to ensure safety and efficiency at every step.
The solutions included ramps, connecting walkways, a central platform, and standalone step units, all working together to seamlessly link the modular buildings.
All systems were designed with a maximum load capacity of 1,000 kg (one tonne), ensuring they could safely support pedestrian traffic as well as the movement of hospital beds and sensitive operating theatre equipment.
At the end of the hire period, removal will be scheduled in line with the Trust’s requirements. However, the hire arrangement remains fully flexible and can be extended if needed, providing complete adaptability throughout the project.
This flexibility is a key strength of our hire package, allowing us to respond to changing clinical demands with ease.
